What are eyelash extensions?
Eyelash extensions are a popular new product that lengthens and thickens your own natural eyelashes. Lash extensions are single strands of synthetic eyelashes that are curved to replicate a natural eyelash. They are applied to each individual natural eyelash one by one for a natural, beautiful and luscious look.
How are eyelash extensions applied?
Eyelash extensions are applied one to one on your own lashes using a medical grade adhesive. An anti-aging eye pad will be applied to keep your bottom lashes concealed and extensions will be placed one by one onto each individual lash. A full set can take up to 2 hours, and fills up to an hour.
How long will a new set of eyelash extensions last?
When applied properly, eyelash extensions will last the length of the natural growth cycle of your eyelashes, which can be about 6 weeks. However, at this point they will no longer be “full”. Fills are recommended every 2-3 weeks to obtain a full, luscious look. The extensions will shed with the natural growth of your own lash.
Is there anything I should do to prepare for my appointment?
Yes! Please come to your appointment with NO makeup on, contacts removed (if worn), and prepared to be lying down for 1-2hours. Also, the lash extensions cannot get wet for 24 hours after application so it’s a good idea to shower before.
Can I wear mascara on my eyelash extensions?
Yes! It must however only be water based mascara. DO NOT USE OIL-BASED OR WATER-PROOF MASCARA. These can dissolve the bonding agent and shorten the life of your eyelash extensions. The Makeup Parlour carries Belvada Mascara, a water based mascara, that will add that extra thickness, length and drama!
Can I use an eyelash curler on my eyelash extensions?
We do not recommend using mechanical eyelash curlers on your eyelash extensions as they will damage the extensions and can possibly damage your own natural lashes as well. The extensions have a curl to them already so most people find they don’t need to use a curler.
How often do I need to get fills?
We recommend getting a fill every 2 to 3 weeks. If you wait too long your eyelash extensions will fall/grow out and you will require a full set. A fill averages about 45 minutes to 1 hour.
Can eyelash extensions be removed?
Yes at anytime and for any reason! It’s a simple procedure where a specially formulated removal gel is applied and removes lash extensions safely without damaging your own natural lashes.
Do eyelash extensions damage my own lashes?
Not at all! Our eyelash extensions are applied on your own natural eyelashes one by one (without touching the skin) with a specially designed bonding agent developed exclusively for eyelash extensions. This new technique is not harmful to your natural eyelashes. The adhesive dries very soft on lashes allowing flexibility and comfort.
Can I swim, shower, exercise, or visit a spa while wearing eyelash extensions?
Yes. The bonding agent we use is waterproof and allows you to shower, swim, exercise etc. Special care is required but overall maintenance is low. The Makeup Parlour carries special products to help maintain and protect your lashes.
How do I take care of my new Eyelash extensions?
- Do NOT get lash extensions wet for the first 24hrs after application
- Avoid hot steam or saunas
- Do NOT use any oil-based products near lash extensions, including cleansers or makeup removers/wipes. Use only water based products to avoid deteriorating the bond of the adhesive
- Do not use mechanical eyelash curlers on your lash extensions
- Avoid tugging or pulling at your lash extensions. Use the mascara brush provide by The Makeup Parlour to comb lashes instead
- Use products recommended by The Makeup Parlour, such as protective sealants and water based mascara to prolong the life of your extensions
Is the product FDA approved? Is it safe?
Currently the FDA is not regulating eyelash extensions because the eyelash extensions are applied to the natural eyelash hairs and do not touch the skin. The application process is pain-free and relaxing that most clients fall asleep during the procedure. However, improper application by an unqualified eyelash technician can cause damage to your natural lashes. We recommend only using a Certified Eyelash Extension Specialist.
